Quarters done and dusted. GB made it by a baw hair in sudden death v Argentina. Feel for the Argies, they were wrecked. Fiji punted NZ out of the Olympics but not much either.

Fiji v Japan

GB v SA

Would love it to be GBR - gold, Fiji/Japan - silver/bronze

But on yesterdays form it could be SA - gold, Fiji/Japan - s/b

Happily it seems like teams form on 1 day doesn't necessarily translate into the same form the next day.

Was amazed and delighted to see Mickey Adamson reffing at the olympics. Used to coach an u12/13 team with him a few years ago. Have seen him.running the lines in the Pro 12 but didn't know he was good enough to take charge. Hopefully he can go on and be the first decent scottish rugby ref in ? years.

He has been reffing on the 7s circuit for a bit

Have been watching the 7s with interest and one thing for sure is that the teams playing "mini 15s style are not faring well, and you can count NZ in that box. GB have been very lucky and only for a last ditch tackle from Bennett v Japan would have lost that game. Possession is everything and the risks of looking for contact v the likes of SA are high.

7s is 7s and not mini 15s.

The refereeing has been pretty off mind. Based on performances so far G - SA - S - Fiji and B - Japan. Would prefer Fiji for the Gold mind

Yeah I don't watch much 7s but haven't been impressed with the quality of rugby. As I posted on another thread, its mostly just ball carriers looking for the defence to make a mistake, rather than seeing the teams use the ball to attack space that's there. Where are all the skills that 7s advocates like to boast of?

In the case of the GB team being rarely used (Mark Robertson). Bibby's a hell of a 7s player though

Is that why he keeps kicking the ball? Can't understand why he keeps doing it.

GB through to the final7-5. Great defence although I thought they were a little lucky not to give away a penalty at the end.

One thing that I think is strange is that they are splitting it over three days without adding extra teams. The best thing about 7s tournaments is the non stop action apart from a little gap before the final but there seem to be quite long gaps here

Which team? RSA for crabbing ever forwards after the tackle?

IIRC the IOC didn't want too many team as it means a lot more competitors; IRB wanted 16 teams.

Fitting that Fiji win the 7s the 1st time it is played at the Olympics. Congratulations to them I imagine they'll be hero's at home.

Britain exceeded my expectations, each of the players have a hard earned olympic medal that no one can take away from them.

Congratulations to Fiji!

All things being equal the Kiwis would've got silver & Australia bronze. Those are the three nations which really pioneered the game through the ages. It was the Hong Kong 7s which helped bring Campo to the fore and allowed him to develop his running game. Back then the Australians and Fijians vied for supremacy with the Kiwis nowhere in sight. That changed in the late 80s as 7s became the arena in which New Zealand first began to showcase its emerging Pacific Island talent. & to be fair they have dominated the abbreviated code for the past few decades, but I think we're all happy to see Fiji crowned champs tonight: Every non-Fijian's 2nd-favourite team.

Amor hasn't been able to rotate his squad due to the tight games. Is this the 1st game lindsey-Hauge and McConnachie has played?

Absolute arse kicking from Fiji. Tell you what though, GB did fucking well to make it to the final. I cynically had us going out well before the medal games. I struggle to get into 7s sometimes, but I've really enjoyed the Olympic stuff. Great show all round.

Great to see Fiji get the gold.

Thought Clive was going to burst into tears before half time there.

Here, whilst you pricks are knocking about, and watching the olymics... That canoeing lark, seems fucking harsh that the penas for missing a gate is 40 seconds. A clean run takes about 90 seconds and there are about 30 of those gates.

How do you mean? He played in every game.

Well done Fiji, if we were to lose couldn't think of a better more deserving team to lose to, all things being equal.

The sport must be filled of cheating cunts that just try to sprint straight down.

Haha fair point... Not sure why I didn't see that, I cheat like fuck in nearly every sport I play.

Still, there must be a better balance to it than that. 4 years of work... miss one by a tiny fraction, and you might as well just pack up your canoe and fuck off.
