Worcester return

Post by Banquo »

...in the Champ, under new owners, gov debts to be repaid......apparently.

So existing 12, promoted side from NL1 (subject to min standards) plus Worcester Warriors (?).

Mixed feelings but at least they do have a stadium, and a HC if rumours are true, unlike the other two potential ‘phoenix’ clubs. All they need know are some players!

they are offering biggish contracts to Cov and other players already. Most Champ clubs a bit hacked off.

(Schonert, Bassett and Everard (as coach) being linked already)

It is. I wasn’t conjecturing. It was the debt repayment that I was questioning. This won’t be received well imo

Rugbypass say Rogerson as well.

The new owners must have a shit-tonne of money to put in if they've paid for the stadium, the rugby debts, the government loans, and are splashing the cash to get a decent squad together at short-notice. Schonert's a free agent, Everard's effectively a free agent with the way Cheika's treated him, and I don't expect we'd be fighting to hang onto Rogerson and Bassett, but that's still going to be a chunk of money, especially if they're also going a-poaching from other Champ clubs.

Not only was that LIrish, it was also being driven by his son, not Eddie; though I'm sure he hoped he'd live long enough to see real progress (IIRC he already knew the cancer was incurable when they put the bids in)

Just looked and the most likely side to join them from NL1 appears to be Richmond, which is horribly apt.

Worcester Warriors announce partnership with Bath Rugby

Apparently, some people need a subscription (I don't), so here's the archive: https://archive.ph/cOkWb

"We were very fortunate that both Bath and Bristol were scrapping over each other to jump into bed with us," said the boss.
...
"If I am completely honest, we chose between those two and the potential of one other... To be honest it was a bit of a no-brainer."
Matt Everard gleefully burning bridges to any future relationship with Brizzle! I'm sure it's taken out of context, but it amused me.

Who were Bath farming players out to before?

Since Leeds went further down - no-one in particular. I don't think we've ever "officially" partnered with anyone; just used to have good connections with league from the Borthwick & Hooper days.

Finding out who's gone where has been a case of someone randomly coming across a team announcement and thinking "that's a familiar name, is he ours?" and chasing it up - it's that or social media stalking of teenagers

Anyone who’d pay enough. We had four on loan at one point. Not easy to deal with.

Brizzle have a deal with Hartpury, but all up in the air with the dual reg rules

If you were cynical, (which no -one is) or the clubs didn't have a history bending rules to maximum self interest, you could almost see this as a way for
1) Bath to keep a huge squad
2) Worcester to get good players on the cheap

In which case not going for Bristol (with a very small squad = not many players to loan) is a no brainer.

Obviously no-one would ever think this.

Does this mean that Worcester will have to sign an entire new playing squad from scratch?
Likely candidates?
