Got to go strong - yeah, it's a warm-up, but it's England at home.

I still remember 2007... :(

I think we should play our second and third choices to give them experience. And lose by thirty points to feed English delusions....

(I see the English Board have got nine pages on this game already!)

We are in real trouble here. The team announcement above was copied from the WRU site. They think the game is on Saturday not Sunday!!!

To be fair, if you turn up on Saturday, you'd probably win that game fairly easily. 1-0 Gatland.

Your opposition, folks.

15 Elliot Daly (Saracens)
14 Ruaridh McConnochie (Bath Rugby)
13 Henry Slade (Exeter Chiefs)
12 Piers Francis (Northampton Saints)
11 Anthony Watson (Bath Rugby)
10 George Ford (Leicester Tigers) C
9 Willi Heinz (Gloucester Rugby) VC

1 Ellis Genge (Leicester Tigers)
2 Luke Cowan-Dickie (Exeter Chiefs)
3 Dan Cole (Leicester Tigers)
4 Joe Launchbury (Wasps)
5 Charlie Ewels (Bath Rugby)
6 Tom Curry (Sale Sharks)
7 Sam Underhill (Bath Rugby) VC
8 Billy Vunipola (Saracens)

Replacements:
16 Jack Singleton (Saracens)
17 Joe Marler (Harlequins)
18 Harry Williams (Exeter Chiefs)
19 George Kruis (Saracens)
20 Lewis Ludlam (Northampton Saints)
21 Ben Youngs (Leicester Tigers)
22 Joe Marchant (Harlequins)
23 Joe Cokanasiga (Bath Rugby)

Feels a bit like the England vs France tests pre the 2003 RWC. First you play your firsts against our rotation, then the reverse next week - that way the reserves get a massive test to see if they're up to it and the firsts get a nice morale-boosting victory.

Of course, the latter depends if you can beat our reserves, which hasn't always been the case in a summer test.

That seems to be it, play your possibles in the home matches and the probables in the away games. I can't see England winning this match.

Eddie Jones said this would probably happen last week on TMS at Edgbaston.

If playing an experimental England side gives us a convincing win to start the warm ups then I’m all for it.

Quite so, we only accept 100% accuracy here.

I was (and am) against playing such a tough series of matches as a warm up. However, now that they are happening I think we should try to win them, even if that means not experimenting as much as we'd like, ideally. We should pick a strong team each time with at most 3 experimental selections across the XV.

Although I can see the logic in giving our opposition the false hopes that would come with a win, I think it's better to do our damnedest to keep up our winning streak.

Is it wise to play the 1st XV four weeks in a row? Feels a bit of a gamble to me.

I'm not saying play exactly the same XV every time, there is room for a little rotation. Just don't pick the sort of team we'd use to play Italy. (Unless, of course, the coaches come to an understanding that they'll both pick experimental teams.)

Wales always start campaigns painfully slowly (well usually), so I'm not expecting a great performance. How much actual rugby will they have been doing while getting absolutely beasted by Gats & co.
That'll be a leveller also by the fact that English depth is so good that this side is very, very strong.
Guys like Launchbury, Ewels, Genge etc would be first choice for most test sides.
Curry and Underhill in tandem either side of Billy Vunipola is a scary thought.
I'm expecting a tight England win to be honest. Still think Wales will be a tough nut at the RWC but it'll take a few weeks to blow the cobwebs away.

In case you haven't seen, we've made three changes due to "injury" (jury out on actually injured, or Eddie f*cking about) - Ludlam in for Underhill, Joseph in for Slade, Cokanasiga in for McConnochie. The former's a weakening, the latter two make us stronger, IMO.

Yeah, I agree your backline is far stronger with those two additions.
Can't say I've seen much of Ludlam apart from some brief clips on highlight programs.

Gareth Davies not operating at 100% either, couple of bad mistakes as well.

England continue to keep it tight and score a second try.

14-0 after 14 minutes.

Ffs Wales. This is going to be embarrassing against an England second string, with our first XV. Nothing changes. Joke that we’re number 1.

More mistakes surrender possession in the England half.

We’re making it too easy for England.
