The Cranberries lead singer Dolores O'Riordan has died suddenly at the age of 46, her publicist has confirmed.
The Irish musician, originally from Limerick, led the band to international success in the 90s with singles including Linger and Zombie.
A statement from her publicist said: "The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries was in London for a short recording session.
"No further details are available at this time."
It added: "Family members are devastated to hear the news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

Always from Limerick, WT. She had her troubles and was a particularly badly behaved airline passenger, but always struck me as handling her fame and wealth a little better than many crop-haired Irish songstresses. A wonderful talent, and prettier than any amount of Corrs put together. It is a dreadful shame that her family have lost her so terribly young.

I read an article earlier that said she never recovered from the abuse she suffered as a child, and had serious problems with drugs and alcohol. Her ex-boyfriend even described her as a psycho who would wake up screaming in the middle of the night. She apparently told him she didn't expect to live long and would be happy to make 50. Didn't quite get there, sadly.

You are right, Rowan. Attacking a young woman's reputation through the re-pedalling of hearsay and the pillow-talk betrayal of an ex-lover is a far more constructive way of commenting on the recently deceased.

Really, Sarge, have you nothing better to do with your time than exploit famous people's deaths to start silly arguments? I read something poignant about a singer of whom I previously knew nothing, though I'd enjoyed her group's music, and thought I would share it. But you have chosen to seize upon this, also, to drag a thread down to kindergarten bickering level.

To be honest it is a slow morning and you persistently offer up the low-hanging fruit of arguments to be picked.
