Technically yes, with 2 wins v Ind in Brum on TueBanquo wrote: Bangles still in it, surely?

The Edgbaston match could be another humdinger now.
What a filip for Bumpy that would be after years of slogging away down at Wuss.

Overcome India first..who are not over the line yet but have a useful run-rate.Banquo wrote:They've beaten P"stan the last 4 times they've played them. Obviously need some help...

Steve Rhodes...(an old Umpire of the same name was nicknamed 'Dusty'...not aware of anyone on the circuit called 'Bendy' or 'Slippy')

He liked being in Wuss dammit all. Interesting he went to Bangladesh when so highly thought of already in the ECB, though a lot of that is down to Moeen Ali turning himself into a spinner (sort of) and a lot of that is down to Rhodes having an obsession with scoring runs, and Wuss not having any money to sign a spinner when Batty left leaving them to get more out of Ali or promote someone even younger into the 1st XIGalfon wrote:Overcome India first..who are not over the line yet but have a useful run-rate.Banquo wrote:They've beaten P"stan the last 4 times they've played them. If Rhodes does well with his current role he's well placed to get a bigger role with the ECB than as a scout

I remember Dusty Rhodes- his son only got two caps, but would have walked into today's test team as an opening bowler. Old school umpire, following on from the likes of the legendary Frank Chester.Galfon wrote:Overcome India first..who are not over the line yet but have a useful run-rate.Banquo wrote:They've beaten P"stan the last 4 times they've played them. Bangles got themselves into a half decent position, but some bad shots and excellent Indian bowling- Bumrah is a genius- seem to have put paid to their chances..Galfon wrote:Overcome India first..who are not over the line yet but have a useful run-rate.Banquo wrote:They've beaten P"stan the last 4 times they've played them. No disgrace for Ban. An Eng win over NewZ will probs. see both through.. Good sportsmanship and the spirit of the game to the fore - may the best team win.

Eng 194 - 1 after 30..ton-up for Bairstow.
nifty start.
(Maybe Vaughan needs to tell a few others when they're being 'pathetic' !)

Fell away towards the end of the innings though. Buttler's been a disappointment this tournament both with gloves and bat. Not sure 300 is enough.
And, as I type that, first NZ wicket falls! It's in the bag!

Isn't there some rule that if you don't field for a certain percentage then you can't bat in the top X positions next match?Digby wrote:Why is Roy fielding?

All 3 wickets have a touch of fortune, a lbw above the knee roll, strangled down leg side, and brushing the tips of the finger for a run out
and NZ really need to up the scoring rate too

Though when you try to accelerate the score people make bad decisions.
I suspect many were critical of England for not building on their start, I was, but is this pitch allowing batsman to play through the ball after those first 10-15 overs of the day? There's a lot of good players seemingly not getting the ball away well

I was just thinking of posting Plunkett wouldn't be a bad shout for MoM, he's not going to get it, but actually he's been very strong todayGalfon wrote:NewZ 139-6 after 33. Semi's beckon.

Is it plausible for Pakistan to overtake you? How much would they have to beat Bangladesh by?morepork wrote:We are doomed.

Re: Cicket fred
Eng., by Trump logic are a great team: After early successes( 3 losing finalists & 2 semis in the first 5 tournaments), in the following 6 Eng. failed to progress beyond the last 8 and in 3 of these didn't make it out the Groups.
2015 in NewZ has to be our Nadir of course, languishing in the bottom 6 alongside Afg, Sco, Ire, Zim & UAE.
At least they let us back in.

Schedule:
Semis -
Tue: Ind vs NewZ, Old Trafford.
Thu: Aus vs Eng, Edgbaston
FINAL-
Sun: Lords.
Edg. is a good results ground for Eng.
(Not sure about Lords should Eng progress, visiting teams appear buoyed playing there).
Pretty tight turn-round for the 2nd semi teams, but thats TS for not finishing top one supposes.

Ind 62-4 after 19 (were 24-4) chasing 240.
Bit of a tuffy now for favourites..
Penetration can always be affected somewhat by local conditions - more help for the bowlers from late yesterday..good 'ol blighty eh ?
