What odds eh ?..
Another quirk..(from beeb):
"Moeen Ali has an extraordinary fourth-innings record - 52 wickets in 22 innings at an average of 21.8, a better fourth-innings average than, amongst others, Shane Warne, Graeme Swann, Derek Underwood and Anil Kumble.
His 4-72 was his seventh haul of four or more wickets in a fourth innings, six of which have come in his past nine fourth innings, since July 2017, including some massive contributions to nerve-jangling victories.
No other England bowler has more than five fourth-innings four-fors in his entire career. Anderson and Broad have six in 94 innings between them."

It pisses me off that we have to consider the possibility. However if I was being paid to lose a match I wouldn’t let it get to within 4 wides of a win, nor would I have reviewed the final wicket.
In any case, shut up; New Zealand has won a test match goddammit and I won’t hear a word against it. We hardly even play tests anymore, let alone win them.

It's an odd feeling to look at a scoreboard and consider it shows competence
Also I feel for both sides playing in these conditions. Brutal stuff

Middle-order bailing the top-order again again - 4 back in the hutch before 40 on the board,Perera doing most damage. The conundrum remains..

Probably enough runs to win this

With Bairstow getting a ton, are our 3 best batting averages for this series going to be 3 wicket keepers...
Foakes top run scorer in the series.

3-0.
Very satisfactory. Good all round squad effort.
Foakes did make the most runs but he is an exceptional keeper.

A very good series for Stokes chipping in with some batting, bowling and fielding, arguably our most important player and he's still adding to his game
Jennings is an idiot, short leg is a horrible place to field, and he's shown bravery, patience, fortitude, anticipation and real ability in there, the moron

Moeen's four-for's in the fourth continueth:
His 4-92 was now his eighth haul of four or more wickets in a fourth innings, seven of which have come in his past ten fourth innings, since July 2017. More in the 2nd innings now please Mo..

Residency rules changing from 7 to 3 years from Jan ?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/46382499
There must be quite a few getting in the frame soon apart from the Bajan Jeffrey
Not sure if this is part of an international consistency move or a bit of desparation.

I think it is more a self preservation thing. If other nations have a shorter residency period it makes sense for England to bring themselves closer into line (assuming the others have resisted extending).
It isn't like the one day side is short on talent (although Jeffery is good).

It's deja vu all over again
errrmm...wtf ??
49-7 after 21 overs, last 5 gone for 5 runs.....
JR's light-bulb moment in finding the secret to success
( i.e it doesn' t matter who scores the runs or how long they stay in...it's getting the runs that counts..) hopefully not a flash in the pan.
Not seeing the action means no comment at this stage on the pitch or Mr Roach..

77 all out, just 182 balls needed.
That's a wicket every 3 overs...
mind you, the lead has been kept to under 200 so there's still hope..(

The pitch is spinning and has some uneven bounce, if you see long odds on an England win I wouldn't take them
Which bowler will pay for the this collapse? Rashid seems the likely target

The 7th wicket pair for WI are handling the turn & unevenness well..250 partnership thus far.

295 and they'd had enough - highest 7th.wicket partnership for over 60 years and 3rd highest ever...
628 to win in over 2 days.Credibility recovery is all Eng. can aim for now.

Aim high, see where you reach - some stuffing is that, against a team that didn't look owt special...

There's another spinner out there like Ali where batsmen keep getting out not only playing for mystery balls that aren't there but for any semblance of spin that just isn't there
I can't say it's understandable, it's pretty much at the level of match fixingly bad

In mitigation this pitch is lively, and unless you're up for getting badly bruised you're on a bit of a hiding to nothing
Btw, if anyone wants to watch highlights the batting, such as it is, from Ali is hilarious

Anything over 200 is a bonus and with dodgy pitch anything could happen ..172-6 @T..55 for Mo.
