England were the better side, but can count themselves lucky with Vardy miles offside when the ball was played, only for the ref to rule him played onside by Williams - completely the wrong call in my view. Anyway, disappointed with the result, slightly more disappointed with our second half performance, not surprised though. England have the makings of a good team and judging by the games so far, they only have Italy to fear. Slovakia won't be a walk in the park, but if they can contain a potent strike force, they'll take three points from the game. Wales are good enough to beat Russia and I'm reasonably confident we will do so.
Yet completely the correct call to everyone else. Williams played him onside. Had the ball come off an English player, it would have been offside. Being in an offside position is not an offence.
Spot on officiating and nice to see instead of errors resulting in goals/disallowed goals.
Wales are definitely good enough to beat Russia but they can't be that passive again. I was expecting them to play a bit today but they had no interest in attacking. After all the hype and blagging from Bale, it was a disappointment.
Gonna be an exciting last couple of games.
It was the correct call, but judging by the positioning of the ref and linesman I don't know how they made it. It took a couple of TV replays to notice the ball had come off Williams.
We'll deserved win by England however, Wales were far to negative and played way too deep. In some ways it would have been better for England to score the winner earlier.

The ref is very close and there is an official behind the goal line (not the lino), you see bale going up to him.

So, what would we like to see for Slovakia?
I'd like to see Sterling dropped. Kane is running out of time...he's looking a little short on confidence.
There's strong calls for both Vardy and Sturridge starting.
I'd also like to see Barkley given a go at some point....probably off the bench, but it seems Woy doesn't have much faith in the lad. He scares defences as he's willing to run at and through them plus can put the ball in the right places.
Tbf to Rooney, he has excelled in his deeper role. He was all over the pitch yesterday, left Ramsey for dead a few times. Pointless free kick that Bale scored from though. Lallana played well too. Both full backs went well. Still waiting for some Alli magic but he's worth sticking with.

Walker - Cahill - Smalling - Rose
Lallana - Dier - Wilshere

Italy looked very poor v the Swedes, then produce a pearl of a goal in the 88th minute to qualify for the last 16

Not many goals, are there? Germany - Poland was a snore fest, as they were both obviously content to settle for a tie. At least in rugby you know you're going to get some tries, even if most of the points do come from kicks...

Group E looks interesting. Belgium could be on their way home tomorrow if Ireland can beat them.
Hoping Austria can turn Portugal over too!

Stopped watching the Croatia game to watch the rugby but Croatia somehow managed to draw from 2-0 up.
Another late, late goal too.

Just seen the scenes from the Croatia - Czech Republic match. Fighting in the stands and flares on the pitch.
Not good.

As they say, at least in rugby the violence is confined to the pitch...

This Euros has just reminded me why I always choose the rugby over the football when given a choice. It's just terrible.
cough
I will stick by my original assertation. We were static and lucky to win that match. The only players who actually seem to inject pace and movement are Wilshere and Sturridge. I thought the latter was our best player yesterday. By a distance.
But it doesn't stop the whole tournament being of very low standard so far.
feel free, but woy got the wesult, hardly 'insanity'.But it is shyte, not that I give a crap about soccer.

Turkish bottoms have been spanked

Apparently Spain has only conceded one goal in its last 18-plus hours of Euros football

Spain played pretty well too. At one point, it looked like it was going to be at least 5-0 as Turkey gave up for a while. It's amazing watching Spain play as it seems they have about 15-20 players on the pitch. Their pressing was excellent.
They're going to be tough to beat on that evidence but on the whole, Turkey were a bit crap.

21 games into this year's tournament & that was the first in which any team scored more than 2 goals.

More goals score at 88mins or later than in the 1st half of all matches

I think it's obvious who will be the top scorer, though. Ronaldo will fill his boots against Hungary, Austria and Iceland. I reckon Portugal Hungary will be the highest scoring match in the tournament, and Ronaldo could easily get 3 or 4 in that match alone.
Well, he's played two matches and still waiting for a goal but it's not for the want of trying. He's had more shots than entire nations so far.
It goes without saying that Ronaldo should beat Hungary but he should've beaten Iceland and Austria too. It's all to play for as all group F teams can still go through.

I'm afraid I wasn't expecting Portugal to play without a striker. When Ronaldo plays without someone to pivot off, he can't get into the positions he likes. It's insanity the way Portugal have been set up, with Nani, Ronaldo and Quaresma all in the same team.

Only 8 going home from the 24 teams in the Group stages ..?
Blimey, they're giving it plenty of stretch.
More in the coffers .but.there could be some topsy-turvey names in the QF's.

Rooney, Kane, Alli, Sterling, Walker and Rose rumoured to be benched against Slovakia.
Agree with Kane and Sterling being dropped but think we need to be starting Alli, Walker, Rose and Rooney.
Sturridge, Vardy, Henderson, Wilshere, Clyne and Bertrand all set to start.

Woy will surely aim to finish top-of-the-pops & play a 3rd place team in the 16's ( ie beat Slo) rather than finish 3rd & play a topper..there are some useful teams out there.
Excluding Ali & Rooney would be a risk against this side.

I actually think that team is more balanced. Better still if we had another wide man, but we don't, so let's make do with what we have.
I know Walker has got plaudits, but he consistently makes bad decisions. I'd much rather Clyne. Wilshere is our best player at finding and using space, so I'd have him in the team. Sturridge is our best forward, and Vardy knows where the net is. I would probably switch Vardy with Kane, Henderson with Alli and Bertrand with Rose, and that would be my team.

Gotta play to win this game and have to play the form players. 6 changes is a hell of a lot to make. If we were already assured of qualifying, I'd understand Woy's approach but this is a big gamble.
I'd go with:
Hart
Walker Cahill Smalling Rose
Dier
Rooney Alli
Lallana Vardy Sturridge
Still enables the likes of Wilshere, Barkley, Kane, Rashford and Henderson from the bench.
