Maybe he got confused be wise his grandfather was German.Digby wrote:Moving on from his confusion from using complex words like origin Trump announces his father was German, and unsurprisingly not only German but was born in a very great place in Germany. His father was born in New York
And grand is just another word for great, and everyone knows that Trump's father must have been great, he was related to Trump, of course.

Are we going to comment on the whole "windmill noise causes cancer" thing?

If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations, your house just went down 75 percent in value,” Trump said. “And they say the noise causes cancer. You tell me that one, okay? Rerrrr rerrrr!”

Keep in mind that I have the Berlusconi vaccination, so I am not that shocked as I used to be 2-3 decades ago. I just laugh these days...

Yeah I’ve been told this is exactly what your lot lived through with Burlusconi. It’s just so difficult to imagine a man like that (knowingly) putting this distraction strategy to use.gransoporro wrote:And how do you feel about it?morepork wrote:Verbatim:gransoporro wrote:Are we going to comment on the whole "windmill noise causes cancer" thing?

Re: Trump
I'm not shocked. It is amusing to watch him struggle to find words for concepts he has no understanding of, all the while sweating on being busted as a pig ignorant fat sweaty thick cunt. My beef is with the social media nightmare that made it possible for as cretinous an individual as he to be considered in any way shape or form fit for public office. We are in the middle of a social devolution and he is the orange face of it. Make shit up. Counter with conspiracy. Deny facts. Pass responsibility elsewhere. REPEAT.

I don't think it is a distraction strategy. It works like that, but the guy is really like this. It's just possible windmills create enough noise they might disturb sleep, and it does seem sleep isn't something many take seriously enough across a range of health issues. And if he wants to address health concerns arising from power generation that's great. Still, coal!

I agree with all of that. No point just ignoring what led to his success and saying he's a fluke, cause that's what'll see him win another term in 2020.Eliashberg wrote:Slightly outdated now, but I thought this was an excellent article:

Re: Trump
I don't really see how Trump can win in 2020. He lost the popular vote last time around and has worked hard to alienate some of the groups who voted for him.
Then again I confidently asserted nobody would be stupid enough to make him their nominee and certainly nobody would be stupid enough to make him president. And there's still little identified as to what the Dems will stand on other than not being Trump. Also Trump might just be getting started on the politics of fear, who knows where this ends up if a mob mentality takes over

The Democrats will hopefully take some responsiblity for their failure in 2016 and provide more room for progressive candidates. Taking responsibility is a hard thing for Americans though, hence the Adderall.Puja wrote:I agree with all of that. Re: Trump
I'm not so sure. The 2016 election was more the result of Democrats screwing it up rather than Trump winning it, although he would disagree with that.Digby wrote:I don't really see how Trump can win in 2020. Clinton isn't just hated with the inbred rednecks; her shady role in international arms trade, and her earnings through series of speeches at Goldman Sachs and frankly, yet much more questionable environments, haven't made her much beloved among progressives in the USA. Naomi Klein wrote a gem of an article just after Trump was elected:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... ricas-fate
The candidate coming from the Democrats will be better this time round, so that gives hope. But the whole Mueller probe has severely dented public trust in mainstream political media (NYT, WP, Wall Street Journal etc.) what with them superficially and brainlessly hyping the whole thing. Probed by a refusal to accept that Trump is a result of deeper problems, rather than the cause, of course. Trump will milk this, and rumors are that he wants to join the Correspondents Dinner this year. People are already composing the predictable jokes he'll make , like "sorry I wasn't there for the past two years, but I was too busy plotting with Vladimir Putin in your imaginations".
A combination of him milking this little victory on the Mueller probe, and another Wall Street candidate from the Democrats could win it again for Trump.

Re: Trump
Hm. Well there is a bit of a schism among the Democrats for a while now. It became very apparent in the recent primary election results for NY state, between Andrew Cuomo and Cynthia Nixon. Cuomo won, and most importantly, in NYC. But he lost in Tompkins County, where a large part of the electorate sits at Cornell University (even though the Nixon campaign misspelled 'Ithaca'). He was unpopular from the very moment Clinton endorsed him.Digby wrote:I've never gotten the impression voters who typically vote Democratic hate Clinton, more she's just not appealing to huge numbers. Well of course people in a party disagree on who should be leading it, that's always the case. Perhaps even unpopular is too strong a term, but I'd be much closer to agreeing with that rather than hateEliashberg wrote:Hm. Well there is a bit of a schism among the Democrats for a while now. Re: Trump
Indeed, Cuomo was unpopular, not hated. But Hillary, photoshopping her face on a Nazi costume and handing out the flyers at local Democrat conventions? That's pretty close to hate for me, though. The whole "Bernie or Bust" thing went generally too far. There were a lot of morons that voted for him against Hillary, and then for Trump as a protest vote. The split in the party is still there, though, and its a topic of daily discussion.Digby wrote:Well of course people in a party disagree on who should be leading it, that's always the case. Sage advice from Donny that Boeing should fix the plane that keeps flying into the ground, no chance Boeing think of that for themselves. Also great advice to add some great new features, though in this he's sadly not specific, cheeseburger holders alongside drink holders maybe?
Finally bless him for inviting commentary on what he knows, one suspects he'll be getting a lot of updates as to what the world thinks he knows
