If it's any comfort, the Swedish commentary team don't think Scotland are playing poorly. Just France are very good.
I'm unconvinced personally. It's probably a sop to their old man, a Scotsman.

Don't love toonie throwing in the towel on 60 minutes. If Darge is injured that would just too it off as a shit day.

ooof. France look good, but Scotland have played a bit into their hands. The 14 point switcheroo at the end of the first was huge.

Well, we've gifted them 3 tries and have contrived to not score 2 golden opportunities, so once again we're left wondering what might have been.

Missed tackles, missed opportunities, the standard idiotic players giving away the same penalties and coaches asking rookie international half backs to run from our own line. Shambles.

Sadly, the appeal for clemency was rejected.

Fool me once (delayed bringing down of a player) shame on me, fool me twice then I must play for Scotland in the tight 5.
Completely fed up of avoidable and costly penalties.

Discipline was poor yet again, but in that case I think it's poor reffing to penalise us and tell France to change their behaviour.

So positives from today include young Mr Darge. The negatives are pretty much everything else. About fair?

Darge, Bennett, Schoeman and Duhan I think. Some others weren't awful.
I thought 9-14 except for Duhan were poor. Graham (and Hogg for that matter) was missing tackles for fun and Price was directly responsible for 2 tries. The centres both can't give a pass and it killed us today. There was a 3 on 2 that Tuipolotu blew that would have put Duhan into space with a player outside him. We can't afford to make those mistakes.
Forwards battled hard but Fagerson and GG continued their long history of giving away stupid penalties. Haining was loitering on the wing and he blew a good chance and was found wanting in defence. I don't get why we have a quick 8 who has played 7s yet have the slow Haining out wide.
We handed them chances that they took and blew opportunitues when a available.
France's first try was an aimless kick and several missed tackles. Graham, Darge and Price all miss DuPont.
2nd try we leave a huge space for the kick.
After Duhan collects the kick that Jaminet misses Harris bombs a 3 on 2 by immediately putting the ball under one arm. Hogg and Graham were outside him. We wouldn't have scored but we'd have made a lot more ground amd with Graham you never know he might have scored.
After about 35min Finn keeps it rather than putting VdM on the outside of Fickou. Price then makes a howling arse of picking it up and gets emptied killing all momentum. We manage to keep it and create an overlap for Haining to try a 2m spin pass to a too flat VdM.
We then have the helter skelter that VdM bails them out that creates the Harris/Hogg bombed try. The killer is we go scrum pen, Gilchrist pen and Fickou runs around Haining and Price from the goal post to score in the corner.
Then we have Price fucking up and he trotts back when Hogg and Duhan were busting a gut.
There were some good things but shipping 6 tries 3 of which were predominantly our own fault isn't good rugby.
Tuipolotu is the least international ready of all 5 options at 12 that have been in the squads this 6N

I am a lot less disappointed about today than the Wales game. There are lots of things we could and should have done better (as Big D points out), but we created half chances against a ferocious defence. The thing is, France make quite a few errors too, but they have so many dangerous players and play at such pace that they can score from anywhere. They are also so dangerous at the breakdown - especially when we are missing 5 from our starting pack including our whole back row.
On the other hand, against Wales we bottled it.
I'm not bothered about playing from our own line late on. I'd be raging if we kicked it away. If you lose another try going for it, I'll accept that. Kinghorn did set up a try in the end too.
Until Redpath is fit, I'd stick with Tuipolotu and Bennett in the centres. Bennett instantly made us a bit more dangerous. I think it's hard to underestimate how much of a handbrake Harris is. Last two games he has been put into space quite a lot - but while he runs hard, he doesn't beat anyone, manipulate defenders, or give decent passes.

Just got in from some pub off the mile. General opinion is that the 14-point turnaround was unforgivable but also probably incidental to the result. We were bossed at the breakdown and the French fans were also very good.
Toonie’s got to decide whether to stick with some of the big names. I’ve got to decide whether to renew my season pass to watch our golden generation for another year..,

Wholesale changes for Italy or keep them to a minimal?

Again I just can’t even muster a thought. Darge and Bennet were good, that was cool I guess.
Karl Dickson can fuck right off though, and I liked him as a player and Quins fan.

We need an alternative to Finn (for when he is being this pedestrian) and Kinghorn looked clueless (even with the try assist).
Would like to see Adam Hasting back for the Italy Game. with a Johnson /Bennett center combo.

Interesting. I know I am a big Finn fan so am maybe a bit blinded, but I did not see him as a major issue at all today. Some nice passes, a deft grubber, some half breaks (along with some less good kicks). He can definitely play better but wasn't near the top of my list of why we lost.
Breakdown was probably number one - plus how good the French attack is.

What is our plan in attack? No pace, no variation, no differing angles of attack. Nothing beyond 3 phases of one out runners (if we can retain the ball that long) and then Russell fires it somewhere down a straight line of backs all running the same angle at the same time.
Sometimes Hogg gets it and jinks around, sometimes a centre will shock the opposition by running a little bit straighter (albeit very slowly) but that’s a about it. Still the only time we get even slightly adventurous is when we’re in our own 22.

We have no plan in attack, beyond give to to someone who is a fast/powerful/elusive runner and see if they can make a break. Sorry, we do have a plan B, simply wait until attempt #291 to "create some magic" from Russell actually works and use it as an excuse to ignore all the stuff that didn't work and gave possession away.
Edit: for the record I thought Russell had a good game yesterday, aside from a couple of aimless kicks.

On Kinghorn, I think for the first time I actually see the plan for him. Are we trying to turn him into B Barrett circa 20111-2015? Barrett was the best sub in the world then either coming on at 10 or 15 and running past tired defenders. We saw one example of that for the try yesterday (along with a few crisp passes and two or three terrible ones).
The bizarre thing is we are trying it without giving him a season of playing 10 first!
