I think he'd have gotten away with it (and a slap on the wrist/fined by the ECB) if he had stopped before the last few punches but I guess when you are as an aggressive personality as him when the red mist descends all bets are off for him trying to retain any composure. Which begs the question why get into that position in the 1st place.
And why didn't Alex Hales step in more forcibly...
Not sure you cam punish Hales for not forcibly splitting it up to be honest.
You can't punish, but you can question...It's his friend in there, why the hell isn't he forcibly stepping in there and telling him to stop? Why is he just shouting stop? Step the fuck in front of him. Tell him to hit you. Even slap him in the face until he focuses on you. But just pull his attention onto you and onto the situation. Just standing miles away shouting stop is not the action of a friend trying to forcibly stop another friend from getting in a lot of sh1t.

That looks fking terrible .Whats really bad that at the end of the recording the guy he punched was offering no threat and he just sparked him .He certainly wasn't taking any prisoners and certainly looked the aggressor .

If this incident is termed as an offence of ' Affray ' , and it falls under the definition , a custodial sentence is often given .

Stokes must have have shit himself when this video turned up . He is in deep deep poo .

Stokes just appears to be a horrible bully with a chip on his shoulder. Needs banning and locked up.

He also seems thick as feck, he wouldn't be the first to take the piss out of Harvey Price, however wrong, but why the feck film it!

What a fucking donut.

Massive shame as he is a player with game changing ability (sounds like some sort of role playing bollocks), and that is the kind of thing that can make the difference with the Ashes.

He'll never play for England again, and rightly so.

Fucking prick.

Never say never. This Ashes series looks more than a little too soon, but we should wait for the police and ECB investigations to continue, and for any court action that follows. But if he serves his time and especially if there is an issue and he works on that I can see him coming back to play for England in future

aye, think we should be looking at due process rather than court of public opinion, though does look as he has behaved pretty heinously.

Would the court of public opinion see him in or out?

There is no way back for him.

He'll be sent down and come out a hardened drug dealer.

Joking aside, my previous post was delivered with a touch hyperbole, but I'm struggling to see a way back for him. Of course it's important to see where the police investigation goes but the video makes for grim viewing indeed. It's the same kind of shit that happens most nights in most towns and cities, but Stokes has a responsibility.

It'll be interesting to see any mitigating circumstances but he has fucked up big time. Bigly time in Trump speak.

There's one bloke who perhaps doesn't want to see that returned as Strauss' call

Think he'll find County wages a bit of a struggle when his ECB contract is terminated .

He'll be a gun for hire in all the T20 tournaments around the world. He won't struggle for money.

Yes, probably better off financially if he was sacked.....which he wont be IMO.

If players were sacked every time they did things like this, Botham would have been nowhere near the top of England's wickets list...

In fact, he probably would have been way down. And the others of that era...jesus, what do you think even Gower got up to!

Different days, old boy. Different days.

Here's hoping that he's given the same chance as anyone else is - takes any punishment meted out, has help to rehabilitate and goes back to his day job.

Do we know if the guy who he smacked is pressing charges ?. I'm told he has a facial injury and that his family want police action . Read that he had some sort of stroke some weeks earlier .Obviously not on medical advice to be scrapping at 2.30 in the morning o/s a Nightclub .

I'm told that Stokes could still be prosecuted for an ' affray ' just on the video evidence alone .

Month down the line and what an earth is happening :?: . There is a video , an injured party , and traced witnesses . What else do the police need :?: Must be hard on Stokes all this time waiting . Perhaps the public and sporting interest have given the police cold feet

Sure if it was me I would have been banged up & charged !!!!

doesnt look like Crane is going to feature in the test team, he's basically been the bowler keeping England's oppos in runs in their warm up games

It’s pretty academic. For instance, Stoneman has been knocking it to all parts in the warm up matches but I still expect him to finish the tour with an average of -3.

As usual, the Oz press and players are keeping it classy. It’s highly unlikely to happen but I’d love us to give them a good going over.

Seen both ugly sides of the Australian sporting psyche in the last week. On Saturday we saw the saw loser whingeing about perceived wrongs. Today the over confident bully boy. Neither does them any credit.

In some ways the Cheika stuff is a bit 'meh', especially with the faces Johnson used to pull, Gatland and Hansens spats and EJ's swearing but perhaps MC needs a bit of a word in the ear!

I do find Lyons "ending players careers" talk very unsavoury and OTT though. Have some digs, give it big and talk about outplaying them but I think hes gone a bit too far!
