Excellent, I really thought that he was going to finish his career in Wales.
I am a little surprised at a three year contract for a flanker into his thirties and who's had a few injuries in recent years. However I'm hoping that he can be our Mike Blair and push Ritchie or Crosbie to be our Ali Price before stepping back into coaching.
Yeah I your point about a 3 year deal. Wonder if it is 2 plus a 1 year option? Or a 3 year deal worth say 500k as opposed to a 2 year deal worth 400k. Just picking numbers out the air.
I think it's a good move though and a 3 year deal wouldn't put me off.

Edinburgh Rugby have signed South African playmaker Jaco van der Walt, two days before the squad departs for the southern hemisphere for the first time on Guinness PRO14 duties.
The 23-year-old former Lions star will join the squad before they set-off for Bloemfontein and will be available for selection immediately having signed a two-and-a-half-year deal.
As a highly regarded youth prospect, van der Walt progressed through the Golden Lions academy, representing the Ellis Park outfit at every possible age-grade. The playmaker was subsequently selected in the South African Schools squad following impressive form for the Johannesburg-based side.
Van der Walt made his first-team debut for the Golden Lions during the opening match of the 2014 season and has since gone on to make 33 appearances for the 2015 Currie Cup winners, scoring 147 points in the process.
Van der Walt made his Super Rugby debut for the Emirates Lions in 2015. The playmaker has made 22 appearances for the Ellis Park outfit and played a major role in helping the side reach this year’s Super Rugby final.
Edinburgh Head Coach, Richard Cockerill, said: “Jaco is a skilful young player who is equally adept at stand-off or fullback. He’s an excellent goal kicker and will provide cover in key areas for us.
"We’re delighted that he’s chosen to be part of what we’re building here at Edinburgh.”

End of the road for Weir maybe? Tovey seems to have win their battle and this new lad has a 2 year contract. I wonder if weir will be able to pick up a contract elsewhere at this point.

I think English Championship is probably Weir's level. There really is no shame in that. He is a very good fly half, just not a top one.
Really pleased that Edinburgh have finally realised that 10 is an issue and taken steps to try resolve it. With an untied player no less who could feature for Scotland in future.

I guess potential project player but I think this was more of an opportunity came up to grab a player who may have potential.

I cannot see Jackson leaving to chase the euros. He will be 30 when his current deal ends and last time he left he ended up a bit-part player at both Wasps and Quins. Given his performances and his history, I'd imagine he will be offered and will sign a 2 year deal minimum with the Weeg.

Wouldn't surprise me but he only signed for weeg after Agen fell through. He's not really any closer to the Scotland team than he was either (still back up 15 and an option at 10).
In many ways his value is as high as it could be for any move.

I think Jackson has came back a better player, he seems a bit like an elder statesmen in that Glasgow team, he plays a sensible game and calms stuff down, Weeg could do with keeping him, only way he makes the next world cup squad is if a few guys get injured

He is a shoo-in for the WC squad at the moment. We are not blessed with good back up at 10 and 15.

What a coup. He has been brilliant at international level. I always wonder what went on with his brother. Appreciate it is not that simple as there is the mental side to consider here too but as identical twins I would have expected them to both reach the same level professionally.

Not sure, there is probably a Scottish granny somewhere. I don't think it matters in the short term, the need is to improve Edinburgh. Longer term they need to start bringing through a SQ 10.

Van der Walt straight in and no Bryce is also an interesting call. That backrow looks surprisingly ok, at least it should be very physical, but very callow.
