Hadn`t thought about Saffer ref`s being involved this season. Could be a bonus..
Tonight`s ref. (sorry, lost his name) was making sure his first assessment was going to be top end. So Laws applied to the letter. (Hi Nigel !)
TMO. Re. Drags. "no try" was just ridiculous..

Thought the refs communication was top notch, consistent and talked throughout even if a bit over miticulous.

Well this is a bit unexpected from Edinburgh
From last season
Kinghorn, Richie , Watson and Toolis are all performing about the same
and also Edinburgh's ability to switch off for 20 mins in the middle of games is still there
The rest of the team, the game plan, mcInally are all moving in the right direction.
I think its only when we come across a decent team and then how the team bounces back from a bad game is when we will know if the corner has been turned

Tend to agree. Although I think a corner has been turned as there is clearly a game plan and things are moving forward. It's just there are plenty more corners to come.
Edinburgh have a brutal schedule ahead so this start was needed before the bigger tests ahead. The S.A. tour minus the Scotland lads will be hard work.

For me Ritchie has stepped up in the first two games. Before he showed glimpses of potential, now he looks really up to the speed of the game. He's done a great job of generating turnovers and slowing up the ball so far and if he keeps progressing we could have a real (understated) star on our hands.
The other big difference is in the defense. It's not as passive as last year and there have been fewer miscommunications it seems. As you say, bigger tests to come however.

Fowles in for SHC? Don't understand that one at all but looks as though Kennedy is very out of favour. Also don't see why Ritchie has been dropped, he's been our best player (alongside Kinghorn) over the first two games. We seem to have gone for size for this one which is what you expect Treviso would want so all in all I'm a bit worried.
Anyways Treviso team below. Back line looks pretty powerful.
15 Jayden Hayward, 14 Angelo Esposito, 13 Alberto Sgarbi, 12 Tommaso Allan, 11 Tommaso Benvenuti, 10 Ian McKinley, 9 Edoardo Gori, 8 Dean Budd (C), 7 Abraham Steyn, 6 Francesco Minto, 5 Federico Ruzza, 4 Marco Lazzaroni, 3 Tiziano Pasquali, 2 Engjel Makelara, 1 Alberto De Marchi.
Replacements: 16 Federico Zani, 17 Cherif Traore, 18 Simone Ferrari, 19 Marco Fuser, 20 Marco Barbini, 21 Giorgio Bronzini, 22 Luca Sperandio, 23 Marco Zanon

Irish I believe. He was let go after a nasty injury to his eye but found a way back playing in the Italian club game.

Played for Boroughmuir last week.
Rambo injured so understandable Ford straight in.
Nel is still working his way back to match sharpness after so long out then having an enforced stand down post internationals. So understandable he isn't starting every game.
Rizzo had been better than Marfo. Not sure why McCallum isn't being used though.
Toolis and Bresler is the better combination of the ones that can be put out.
Ritchie and Watson can't start every game and rotation is important. Especially given the tough schedule ahead. Hardie and Du Preez are good replacements.
Fowles starting is strange but the rest of the backline deserve another run.
Would like to have seen McCallum/Carmichael or CHH on bench but all in all I think it's a sensible selection bar Fowles.

Just looks like a bit of rotation guys. Agree that Fowles should be nowhere near the 23 - rotation or not.
Even last season he looked a level below Embra...

Apparently Alba rely on mostly piggy backing of the regional channels coverage. BBC Scotland must not have fancied it.

Yeah - just looks like rotation. Remember, the Scotland players can't play 5 in a row or something like that.
Anyway, in other news...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-e ... e-34341498
Although it's tempting to see if they could get a Scotstoun-type set-up, I'm not sure the SRU are in a position to spend £6.2m on a stadium where they have to share it and some of the Scotstoun issues would be present.
I don't know the area that well, but is there land near the Gateway tram stop that could be bought for a stadium? The underused facility would be great for transport and you needn't build all 4 stands at once. I just remember going through it on the way to the airport and thinking of writing a letter off to Murrayfield, along with a question of why there are no DVDs in the Scotland shop. Anyway, I digress. I just fancy some stadium chat.

I wouldn't want the SRU plugging the 6m shortfall for something that isn't really suitable. Running track amongst other things makes it a non starter for me.

Plenty of scrums and about 3 lineouts on the treviso 5 metre with Treviso down to 14 then 13. Didnt really look like scoring.
2 good tries to go 14 nil up but then didnt really do anything. Same kindof issues as the last couple of years. Just no real penetration and make mistakes at the wrong time
