Incidentally I think that penalty against the Japanese players for getting up and picking the ball up was wrong. Yes, players had rucked over him but he was now on his feet so entitled to pick the ball up at the back of the ruck - no one's back foot was over it.
In fact I would go as far to say if they cut out the mistakes they may be better than Ireland.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

There's space out wide against Japan to be exported if we can get it to Graham. Keeping control of the ball and not kicking it away will be important.

Their fans must be bursting with pride. What a performance and ultimately all we asked of Scotland - that they show up.

I don’t think Japan will win but they’ve left everything in the pitch so far. Superb performance.

You sure it wasn’t cause he ran into his own man after doing so?

I don't think our tactics were all that different but execution is night and day. Their forwards have leg drive and can also handle

This is a thriller. Crazy wide open, and close on the scoreboard. Didn’t expect this at all.

Hard not to support them even though that’s probably is out. They deserve it.

Ref said that it was because a ruck had formed.

I'm definitely supporting Japan. Still leaves us a way to get through but we'll have to earn it

Sigh, that'll give the coaching staff an out.

Absolutely. They earned that, much better team on the night, and its not like they ripped up any rugby manuals, just played decent rugby. I'm Japan all the way now.

Why did Carbery kick it out?

Think that losing bonus point means they definitely finish above us if they get 5 points v Samoa and Russia.

All about points difference for us now (and winning of course).

I guess Ireland hate rugby so much they’d rather lose than score from behind their own line?

Losing bonus point which could be crucial. Looks pretty cowardly to me though

Typical Ireland. Save their best for the big teams.

I will continue to live in denial of the state of Scottish rugby for the next two fixtures anyway.

This. That said, they didn’t look like scoring a try when in Japan’s 22 so a score from behind they’re own line was a long shot.

If he wanted to save the bonus point, why didn’t he just kick it out the back of the park? I think it was just a mistake.

Pity Japan didn’t take a drop goal off that last scrum!

Great result for Japan. Delighted for them and love the way they play.

Makes the group fascinating.

I can't support Samoa even if it knocks us out in the process. Japan are impossible to dislike.

Given the size of Samoa and their resources I find it quite easy to root for them. They'll pretty much always be underdogs.

This is shaping up as a fun game though
