With everyone fit? I think I'd go for Bradbury, Watson and Denton in the back row.

I'm afraid I just havent seen much to get excited about from Denton recently. Some decent enough carries on the weekend but only what I would expect from him. He seems to get chopped low quite easily. I think Strauss would do a better job.

I'm not sure Wilson is the dream 8 for Scotland bu with Barclay out at the mo I think I'd pick Wilson at 8 and try and find more of a big carrier at 6. Ritchie isnt really that player so I think it'd be between Bradbury and Fagerson

I don’t know if it’s even about Denton offering anything special, but he sucks in defenders. Strauss has been playing very well for his club so it’s a shame not to look at that alternative. If Fagerson is ready that would be brilliant but I think it’s a bit early for him.

Whether the power comes from 6 or 8 I don’t mind too much, but a Barclay/Wilson combo doesn’t offer it and for me there’s only one winner out of those two.

The idea of 6. Bradbury 8. Fagerson somewhere down the line is very appealing to me, both very aggressive and dynamic.

I think Denton needs a test against some top opposition to cement his place but we really have missed that kind of bulk, dynamism and go-forward on the pitch. Could Bradbury be that player? Possibly.

Agree on Strauss. I have no idea what he's done to Toony. Still only 31 so can't be age - young and fit enough for this RWC for sure.

Denton is a good stop gap until the next 8 is ready. So I'll take him, dildo hands, horse blinkers and all.

True. I didn’t catch that dumb offload you mentioned in the match thread but I certainly noticed that foot in touch when catching a restart and I’m pretty sure he did the exact same thing within the last year or so.

It’s a concern because we rely a massive amount on Wilson dropping back and fielding kicks, we need someone else to step up or for Denton to drastically improve his handling/awareness. To me it just seems Strauss would be an easier call. What was the deal with the Fiji debacle again?

I couldn't tell you when it was but he runs at the gap and makes a half break pulling the defence in, Canada are under the cosh and on the back foot. He has one support runner but its not on. He throws it anyway and it's either a knock on, forward or Canada poach the ball. It was late... I'm pretty sure I didn't dream it.

I don't think anyone has a clear answer about Strauss. The entire team were rotten against Fiji.

He did throw an intercept but in fairness he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't as people would be saying he could of offloaded but didn't. I don't mind him trying when it was on but execution needs to be better.

My point is the context. Every carry was stretching the Canadian defence and driving them back a few yards every time. No need to offload until it's absolutely on in those circumstances.

Lee Jones is out for the tour confirmed.

Price has also been ruled out and Charlie Shiel is called up. Interesting one that - glad Toony is going for him over the likes of Fowles, Kennedy, etc.

Team out around 2.30. Open minded but want to see Hastings start at 10 and Kinghorn get another start (though it will probs be on the wing). Otherwise would be happy to see Bennett at 13, Carmichael at 5 and Fagerson at 6 with Ritchie at 7 and Bradbury or Denton at 8

Pushed back to 3.15.

I'm expecting

Horne
Hastings
Kinghorn
Horne
Taylor
McGuigan
Hogg

Also suspect Carmichael will get a start in the forwards.

Would be okay with that. Also realised I forgot about Hamilton before. Not seen enough of him to have a strong view

Always one clanger isn't there?

Happy with that other than the obvious.

Haha, yeah can only assume he didnt want any of last weeks backrow starting again. Hopefully between Carmichael and Swinson we should have enough mobility

Is Taylor injured then? Would rather Bennett got the shot at 13

Oh for fucks sake.

Doesn’t Carmichael play 6 a fair bit anyway? Like a whole lot more than Swinson.

I’d really have liked Fagerson to get a shot with a proper pair of flankers in place.

Grigg.

Ugh.

Is this one on at some stupid fucking time as well?

I actually thought the BBC had fucked up the teamsheet when I read the names Carmichael, Toolis, Swinson, Hamilton all in a row.

2AM again.

This might mean that we see Taylor & Bennett line up against Argentina...

Not a fan of Swinson at 6. That is Townsend cramming a personal favourite in the side for no real reason IMO. There's no reason Ritchie or Bradbury can't back up from last week and still play next week and they are far more deserving of the caps.

Nor me, but I'm happy with that, can imagine Swinson was lined up to start in the 2nd row, but Carmichael played a stormer when he got the chance and is well worth a second look as a starter, so moving Swinson back is a chance to look at Plan B/C (just like starting Jackson v Canada) - is there someone else we'd rather see at 6 that hasn't already started there or is likely to start/bench v Argentina?

There's no reason players couldn't back up weeks in a row. They do it in the autumn. It's frustrating because Canada are so poor they are the team to fart about the team with if that's what toony wanted.

Swinson is so far down, or should be so far down the list of viable 6s - he'd be behind at least 11 for me (the 3 involved last week, 2 other starters this week, Carmichael, Wilson, ashe, Barclay, Hardie if Watson is at 7. And even then I've probably forgotten someone.

All this is doing is, for a lack of a better term, "stealing" experience from guys who realistically need any experience they can get.

I knew I forgot someone earlier - crosbie. Potentially the best 6 of the lot of them.

Swinson wouldn't even be in Edinburghs top 4 locks given McKenzie is a well liked club man.
