I have been wondering how on earth they were planning on doing electronic voting even remotely securely in just over a week. Still, not like it's an important decision or anything, is it?

Puja
My thinking is: if the decision goes to the members we can reasonably assume they'll choose the worse of the two. Therefore voter fraud literally can't do us any harm.

If that were replicated in an election, the Conservatives would keep just 15 seats, none of which would be held by any of Boris, Mordaunt, Sunak, Badenoch, Bravermann, or Wallace (or Truss for that matter, although she would have the distinction of losing to the Lib Dems). Sadly, Christopher Chope would remain safe.

Puja
This must be so bittersweet for the Lib Dems - Tories going down in flames yet still more popular than them.

....aaaaaaaand.........

here`s Boris
I want Boris back purely for the absurdity of it. It would be life imitating satire at its finest.
The odds seem to be moving towards him.....51 now supporting him.
This is going to do wonders for our international reputation.

RiSu 86, BoJo 63, PeMo 23 latest backer-stats.
Mordaunt well short of the threshold atm based on this -
Not sure if Sunak will attract votes in Red-wall territories if in place.
It would top it all if Boris returned only to have to resign soon after
following an on-going investigation, or if a truck load of mp's changed parties or simply resigned in protest.

I understand that at least 14 have said they will resign if he rebecomes leader.

So Boris' supporters are claiming that he has reached the 100 mark, but BBC is suggesting a lower tally based on those MPs who have publicly backed one of the 3 contenders. Rishi remains in the lead.

If Boris is on the ballot paper then heaven help us. The Tory party members are daft enough to elect him and then all hell will break lose, particularly if he is found to have breached parliamentary rules. Plus many Tory MPs may resign, or else refuse to take part in government.

However, if Sunak wins then the right wing are already laying the ground work to stab him in the back, reminding us all that he helped to end the Johnson premiership.

The idea of this lot giving us stable leadership for the next 2 years is laughable and its time for a period in opposition. Sadly, despite being the supposed patriotic party, too many are thinking more of the next election than what's best for the country right now.

I dont believe that they have a contract in place yet that has been assured to provide accurate results. I think the 1922 are praying that there isnt a members vote. But it ill get messy (in many ways) if there is.

According to the BBC Boris now has 53 public supporters. Here’s hoping that he doesn’t make 100!

I think it would be better if he did win. I don’t want Sunak bringing any respectability back to the Tories

Could be another 2 years until the next election and Boris and his ERG nutter mates can do a lot more damage in that time.

Wikipedia are going to need a bigger graph: Labour polling 62% vs Tories on 16%. A mere 46% lead.

Boris ain't standing - RiSu will give him a senior role presumably.
He claims to have enough backers, so is stepping aside in the interest of unity.. :)

Bullshit.

He probably didn’t have the 100 or maybe just scraped past and realised that in the indicative vote he would get mullered. If Sunak gives him a role then it will just be to keep him vaguely quiet, although May tried that and it didn’t work.

He says 102 - the prospect of the membership again countering the mp collective wish, especially with the schism it would cause would be a vote for xmas.
Not sure if Penny will fall into line now to speed things up or if enough erstwhile Bozzers can flip over to her to extend the intrigue and confusion.. Zahawi has gone over to Sunak.

If he had 102 he would stand. It's just another lie.

Surprised both Braverman and Badenoch backed Sunak. Maybe they just hate Mordaunt even more.

With Johnson out of the way, Mordaunt will pick up all the anti-Sunak votes, but is that enough?

According to the Mail:

“For the good of the party and the country (1), Mr Johnson set his dream aside (2). This is a gesture of wisdom, honour and statesmanship (3). His time will come again (4).”

Notes:
1. This is actually true.
2. Yes, but his dream is just to show everyone he's the best, no matter the cost.
3. Perhaps accidentally copied from an article about someone with wisdom, honour and statesmanship?
4. Just fuck off.

Rishi Sunak will face ‘ungovernable’ Tory party, warns Johnson supporter

MP Christopher Chope says there will be continuing rebellions unless Sunak holds general election if he becomes PM
I hope so.

Go against a couple of 3-line whip votes (or just resign the whip on principal); get themselves deselected, and either force a GE directly, or go along with a vote of no confidence, and force a GE.
Then the likes of JRM, Francois, Redwood and Robertson can join whatever's left of UKIP - where they actually belong; and never be seen in Westminster again (or at least, not until we have PR - which would be a win in itself).

Chope has the benefit of knowing that, even if the best case opinion polls carry through to an election, he will be holding onto his seat. Labour might only need 30-35 Conservative MPs to vote with them on a no-confidence, but I think they'll struggle to find enough turkeys willing to vote for Christmas. I don't even think Dorries would vote for it, given that it would likely see her one true love lose his Uxbridge seat.

This result has disappeared from the page. Perhaps it was a mistake or a hack?

Anyway, I guess Labour will have to make do with leads in the 30s.
