Without digging too much in to that tweet, why did it prompt a response about horseshoe theory? Is Jay Weaver someone of note on one end of the spectrum?

Anti-vaccine, looking like that, organic food, home schooling, Al symbols of “liberalism”, not conservatism. Something that would usually appear on the left of the “spectrum”.Mikey Brown wrote:Without digging too much in to that tweet, why did it prompt a response about horseshoe theory? We’re skills really reclassify towards humanist and elitist. And at the moment, how many humanist governments are there in the world? Not many...

I've no idea who he is, or what he's about - or even what he looks like; but Anti-Vacc and home schooling are pretty defining traits of libertarianism, I'm not familiar with either being considered traits of liberalism - organic food spans the spectrum, and is definitely strong with libertarians.Stom wrote:Anti-vaccine, looking like that, organic food, home schooling, Al symbols of “liberalism”, not conservatism. ETA: Sorry, have scrolled up (duh) Jay Weaver is Jax Weaver, the lady in the tweeted photo - who could only look more libertarian if she had an AK47 in her hands and a pistol in her daughter's.
The only thing that makes her even slightly left-leaning is that she "looks like" she smokes pot - which is still right bang centre of libertarianism and again, spans the political spectrum in all ways bar stereotype.

Good news on your mother in law.morepork wrote:Anecdote is endemic to our species. Somehow a species of a genus endemic to bats found its way into an attenuated recombinant form of an antigen for a different species of virus in a composition that is fully virulent and functional. Because obviously ground up bat is a fundamental component of influenza vaccines.
I mean, for the love of fuck, not even a cartoon villain could successfully engineer the logistics of this laughable context. Yet people entertain it, cos, you know, social media. Chinese whispers...hang on...
On a more positive note, my mother in law who came down with the real virus has made essentially a full recovery. The immortal witch will be haunting me with her beady eyes and bad food long into my old age. I am both cursed, and blessed ?
Social media is brewing up all kinds of nonsense, sadly people have the time on their hands to read it and believe it.

Speaking to my rellies in South Africa, they seem to believe that the lack of an epidemic there is because 95% of the population there (I assume they meant white!) had BCG jabs! I didn't especially want a depressing family row on Zoom.Sandydragon wrote:Good news on your mother in law.morepork wrote:Anecdote is endemic to our species. Sorry, forgot about the existence of libertarians for a second, as the two are tied together somewhat here, plus over here the liberals...aren't generally very liberal, lol.
But I know a lot of people who look like that. I wouldn't think that she was a pot smoker first, because, well, anyone can be a pot smoker, but that she's someone who buys organic, doesn't vaccinate, etc.

I've been surprised by this combination of characteristics recently. Someone I know is a home educator, anti-vacc and I would generally have said she was fairly hippyish. But then I was surprised to see her justifying her anti-vacc and anti-WHO views with reference to Fox News and some even more far-right media. But it may be that I just don't know her well enough, and she's not a hippy at all, she's actually an extreme libertarian (without much scientific background).Stom wrote:Well, yes.Which Tyler wrote:I've no idea who he is, or what he's about - or even what he looks like; but Anti-Vacc and home schooling are pretty defining traits of libertarianism, I'm not familiar with either being considered traits of liberalism - organic food spans the spectrum, and is definitely strong with libertarians.Stom wrote:Anti-vaccine, looking like that, organic food, home schooling, Al symbols of “liberalism”, not conservatism. It recently turns out that a lot of people I thought were liberal are actually rather extreme fascists, really. They only want their own freedom, not anyone else. I think it's because of the way the world has been going. That one is doing the rounds in Italy too.
BCG is being tested for conferral of resistance in front line health workers though:
https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04327206
It will be a year before any definitive data is out on that. In the meantime, knock yourself out with Lizard people and Bill Gates on FaceFuck.

The person I mentioned is convinced that her only child's illnesses (although she doesn't seem particularly ill to me...) are caused by malevolent forces such as 5G, vaccines, all manner of chemicals in the environment, etc. It must be very stressful to think that everything is poisonous without much scientific knowledge to make sense of it all.Stom wrote:It recently turns out that a lot of people I thought were liberal are actually rather extreme fascists, really. Nothing a good plant extract diluted 1:1 000 000 000 000 000 000 won't fix.
Tell Typhoid Mary to stay home when a vaccine becomes available so she doesn't, you know, fuck up every one else's life.

A new low in petty irresponsibility. Missouri state government attempts to sue China for negligence:
https://www.bbc.com/news/business-52364797
The civil lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, is against the Chinese government, Chinese Communist Party and other Chinese officials and institutions.
"In Missouri, the impact of the virus is very real - thousands have been infected and many have died, families have been separated from dying loved ones, small businesses are shuttering their doors, and those living paycheck to paycheck are struggling to put food on their table," Mr Schmitt said in a statement.
"The Chinese government lied to the world about the danger and contagious nature of COVID-19, silenced whistleblowers, and did little to stop the spread of the disease," Mr Schmitt said. "They must be held accountable for their actions."
Projecting much?
This country is run by such pathetic tiny little men.

Re: Trump
Christ alive you'd struggle to sue your own government, why are there lawyers willing to waste their time trying to sue a foreign sovereign nation? Snowballs in hell have historically stood a better chance. I'm assuming this gets dismissed at the earliest opportunity and it's just some very weird grandstanding to bolster a wider publicity campaign

"I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning," the president said during the briefing, speaking to his health officials. "As you see it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that."

He's probably right in the sense drinking bleach/disinfectant will kill Covid sitting in the upper respiratory tract, okay he's going to fall foul of his own line on what do you have to lose, but if someone wants to try this I don't really mind unless they're doing it to children or hoping for medical assistance after the event
Edit - As an aside the latest absurd comments will distract from any coverage on Trump or his cronies benefiting financially from the various drugs they've pushed without cause during these times
