The only defence, beyond them being brown/foreign, seems to be that they’re not really children or not really concentration camps.
I have no idea why I bothered typing that. I’m sure Digby knows, but doesn’t give a shit. Likewise Coco. Oh well.
I do give a shit... I live down there... none of it is OK with me. CBP cant keep up with how many are coming... and the vast majority of deathly ill people coming arent getting ill when they get here... they are traveling under the worst conditions imaginable... making the trip deathly ill and are in bad shape when they get to a safe place.. Not to mention little girls having 10 - 20 different semen samples found inside them when they arrive... its horrific... all of it. My own opinion is that for the most part, allowing children to merrily go with any adult that says they are a relative is irresponsible too.. what is it that would make the tragic mess better? CBP arent licensed daycare or foster care facilities and everyone expects miracles. Nobody is setting out to harm anyone coming over, its had to be makeshift. I feel bad for the kids.. its gotta be a horrid experience. Mexico has offered refugee status for most of them... jobs... medical help.. but they dont want that... so they keep travelling north. 88% of them dont qualify for asylum in the U S... and they know it yet still put themselves and any children travelling with them in danger.
You think cos I support Trump that I dont give a shit? I probably give a shit more than any of you that dont see it first hand while puffing out your chests and "feeling good" parroting talking points that are not necessarily accurate, exaggerated, and do nothing to help these poor innocent children. But hey... keep on droning on about it if it makes YOU feel like youre actually lifting a fucking finger to help them.
And as for you Cashead... you fucking holier than thou, one eyed, know-it-all... instead of sitting there spouting ridiculous and offensive snipes at people that question your apparent expertise on the subject of 'concentration camps'... or anything else for that matter...why dont you crawl down from your lavender velvet tufted chaise lounge, pull the wadded up panties out of your ass and offer up suggestions or ideas that might help these kids instead of exploiting them on a message board. I at least volunteer and get food, diapers, feminine hygeine products and baby formula down there. You want to help? Let me know.
As far as I'm aware, there is no actual increase in asylum seekers over previous years or decades. This is not a sudden problem and the only way to cope is concentration camps - this is an administration who has decided that concentration camps are a better idea than others. It is a choice and you have voted for and are supporting that choice.
Even once the decision to run concentration camps was taken, they could have been funded better and run more humanely. The administraton was successfully taken to court to force them to provide hygiene products and facilities to children. They had to be forced to let refugee children bathe. The conditions are deliberately awful and you have voted for and are supporting that choice.
You say no-one has set out to harm anyone and that it's all makeshift, but this is policy. No-one just found a bunch of cages in the desert and decided to make do - the government chose this and chose how many resources they were willing to put it. Turns out that that was less than was needed to treat peolle like human beings. You have voted for and are supporting that choice.
You could be increasing the number of asylum judges so you don't have to keep these people. You could be engaging with South American countries, targetting aid and trade to make heir home places that they don't need to flee from. You could stop ostracising countries in the continent that you have ideological opposition to and start engaging with them. You could take a laissez-faire approach to immigration and not decide to abitrarily pull up the drawbridge after your ancestors fled their home countries to find a better life. You could be doing a lot of different policy things.
What your government have decided to do is declare a completely statistically normal number of refugees as a "crisis", talk about "invasions" and portray them as the biggest emergency facing the US today, because they're an easy problem to do something about. It's not humane, it's not Christian, it's not a good long-term solution, but it is public and it's far easier to demonise immigrants and Hispanic people than it is to try and solve the myriad other problems in your country.
I believe you when you say you voted Trump for the economics of your business and your region and that you're happy with him for those reasons, that you put to one side the controversies, gaffes, and other issues. However, among the things you have put to one side as less important, are innocent human beings, who are being kept in conditions that it's not legal to keep dogs in, simply because of their ethnicity. That is less important to you than your taxes. Your volunteering and charity are a drop in the ocean - you have voted for and are supporting this choice.
