So, I was reading a nearly 15 year old article that mentioned what was a seemingly random set of U26 district "development" matches (circa 2002) and it got me thinking about the relative youth of some of our players.
Using the same method of applying the seemingly randon restriction (those born 1990 or later) would look like:
1. Sutherland (23)
2. McInally (25)
3. Fagerson (20)
4. Gilchrist (25)
5. J. Gray (c) (22)
6. Denton (26)
7. Watson (24)
8. Ashe (22)
9. Price/SHC (both 22)
10. Russell (23)
11. T Brown (26)
12. Dunbar (25)
13. Bennett (23)
14. Hoyland (22)
15. Hogg (23)
16. One of the young weegies.
17. Dell (24)
18. Berghan (25)
19. B Toolis (24)
20. Bradbury (20) - I like his style. - CdP is 25 when he qualifies.
21. SHC/Price
22. WFD (24) or wee Tam (24)
23. Bryce (24)
I have undoubtedly missed some but front row is a clear strength in depth issue but the first XV named above is not a million miles away from a 15 we could see on the pitch at some point in an international.
Ultimately our best players are mostly young and fingers crossed they haven't peaked yet.
If Scotland had to field an U26 side.....
